Trail Talk 2016

The 2016 YCP crew just finished their summer of work, but their impact on Grand Teton will be enjoyed and appreciated by park visitors well into the future. YCP’s 21 crew members spent 10 weeks working in Grand Teton, and each hiked 42,865 vertical feet and walked 213 miles.

It is hard to believe that there is only one week left of the YCP season! This week the crew completed trail maintenance in Garnet Canyon, finished work on the Lucas Fabian Homestead, and learned about edible and medicinal plants.

This week, the YCP camped in the Lower Berry backcountry. Highlights of the week included learning about the area fire from firefighters, finding thimbleberries and huckleberries, watching peregrine falcons fight, learning how to fly fish, and playing hackie sack in the evenings.

During the seventh week of YCP, the crew continued to work on the trail by the Lucas Fabian Homestead. They persevered through dust clouds, scorching days, and black flies. Although they still have work ahead of them, they have put a sizable dent in the project.

The YCP season is more than halfway over and time is flying by. This week the crew gained first aid skills and dug new trail at one of Grand Teton’s historic properties. Learn more in our latest edition of Trail Talk!
