Trail Talk: A Behind the Scenes Look into GTNP’s Youth Conservation Program – Week 3

Warm, warmer, and even hot weather greeted YCP during their third week of the season. Many hands made light work on Monday when the crew got a hold of some pick axes and shovels and created a horse trail cut-off near the west Jenny Lake boat dock.

Teamwork is key when moving large logs.

After a well deserved 4th of July break, YCP was able to demonstrate their trail building and rock moving skills on Donor Day with the addition of Mike and Doug to the crew. A few GTNPF staff members joined in the fun as well. Thanks to all who helped YCP accomplish more than expected!

A trail feature that exists up every canyon in the park are drains, which help prevent erosion. On Thursday, the YCP team headed up Death Canyon to dig more drains, with the promise of a refreshing detour by Phelps Lake to wade or swim to end their third week of the summer on a high note.
