The Snake River Gateways Project is Complete: A New Chapter on the Water

Our community came together last week to celebrate the completion of the Snake River Gateways project, a multiyear effort to enhance three of Grand Teton National Park’s most popular river access points: Moose Landing, Jackson Lake Dam, and Pacific Creek. The project launched in 2020 with the support of the Foundation, placing accessibility at the forefront of construction.

To achieve this, crews built wheelchair-accessible pathways, ramps, and platforms along the water’s edge, making it easy for all visitors to enjoy an afternoon of fishing, a picnic, or simply listening to the trickle of flowing water (or roar if you're next to the dam). These designated pathways also help protect the riverbanks by reducing erosion and limiting the creation of undesignated trails. New educational signage and interpretive features now offer visitors important safety information while deepening their understanding of the river’s ecology and how to care for the surrounding landscape.

A ribbon cutting celebration at Moose Landing, the project’s final site, marked the culmination and recognized not only the upgraded facilities, but also the community’s enduring commitment to river stewardship. The Foundation’s president, Leslie Mattson, and Grand Teton National Park superintendent, Chip Jenkins, expressed gratitude to all who made the project possible. John Turner, Triangle X owner and longtime river guide, also shared stories of his personal connection to the Snake River and emphasized the importance of protecting access for future generations.

Whether you’re casting a line, launching a boat, or simply soaking in the view, you can do so knowing that these improvements will help the Snake’s riparian habitat thrive for years to come. We are deeply grateful to our supporters and partners whose generosity brought this vision to life.
