Pura Vida, a Foundation-funded program that introduces local Latinx youth to their backyard national park, concluded another successful summer in Grand Teton with two weeks of engaging activities for local Latinx middle school students. The program had twenty-one participants, including eight returning middle schoolers and three sets of siblings, which added a delightful dynamic to the adventures. Two dedicated peer mentors from our Spring Break Internship Program guided the youth.

Participants enjoyed scenic hikes, canoeing on String Lake, camping at Gros Ventre Campground, and actively participated in a stewardship project. The family night was a highlight, bringing everyone together for a carne asada pot-luck. This event celebrated identity and brought a sense of community to the forefront.

The positive example set by the sibling pairs and the exceptional leadership displayed by the peer mentors contributed significantly to the program's success. One standout peer mentor, who had initially struggled to adapt to Jackson, ultimately found a deep connection to the town and the program. His growth and leadership during the program were remarkable, reflecting the essence of community and fostering meaningful friendships.
