Delta Lake Route Improvements Complete For The Season

For many years, the route to Delta Lake has been defined by splintered social trails, erosion, vegetation damage, and a level of visitor demand that only continues to grow. Beyond damaging the natural area and disrupting the wildlife that depends on this habitat, the existing path was genuinely hazardous to navigate, contributing to a rise in rescues needed in the area over time.

Efforts to address these issues and stabilize the terrain began this season as part of the Foundation's broader commitment to backcountry trail renewal. The project was very much a team effort: crews from Access Fund and Grand Teton National Park worked side by side to consolidate the tangle of paths into a single, sustainable route, one designed to withstand steady use while giving the surrounding terrain room to recover.

Paid crews weren't the only ones who showed up. On July 25, 2026, community members lent a hand as well, including Teton Climbers Coalition staff, local residents, Foundation staff, and several Jenny Lake rangers who have personally responded to this area time and again in recent years.

The photos below tell the rest of the story. Even with a clearer, more sustainable route in place, Delta Lake remains rugged, demanding terrain, and it's still best suited for experienced hikers.
