The Paintbrush to Cascade Canyon loop begins and ends at the String Lake Trailhead. With unbelievable views of the Cathedral Group, Holly Lake, and Lake Solitude, this 18.1 mile loop is a favorite among many. Foundation President, Leslie Mattson, and Foundation supporter, Susan Lancelotta, hiked this loop together this summer.
On a perfect July day I went on a classic Grand Teton hike with long time GTNPF supporter Susan Lancelotta. Susan and her husband Nick Koutrelakos and their kids are avid hikers and climbers. They have been coming to the park for decades.
We decided to hike Paintbrush Canyon over the divide and out Cascade Canyon. The 18.1 mile, 5,674 feet elevation hike took us about 9 hours, but it was glorious. At the top of the divide we met other hikers and we took pictures next to the elevation sign.
If you go, make sure to bring plenty of food, sunscreen, and water. The views can’t be beat! The cold Jenny Lake Lager at Dornan’s tastes especially good after a long day in the park.
